How does the Treehouse Life design and build process work?

Treehouse Life's design and build process moves from a personalised brochure and site visit through to contract, production and installation, typically completing within six to twelve weeks. Payment is structured across three stages - 40% to begin, 40% on the first day on site and 20% on practical completion. Every project receives our undivided attention because we only work on one build at a time.

There is a moment - usually on a video call or standing together beneath a canopy of oak - when the conversation shifts from "what if" to "let's do this." That shift is what our process is built around. It begins when you share your wish-list with us and we send you a personalised brochure exploring the possibilities for your site, your trees and your imagination. From there we arrange a call to talk through every detail, then a site visit - either in person or virtually - so we can understand the land, the light and the feeling you are reaching for. We issue a proposal and we refine it together, at your pace, until the design feels right. Once you are ready, we draw up a contract and an initial invoice of 40% of the agreed cost, which triggers production. We only take on one project at a time, so from that point forward you have our complete and undivided focus. We agree an installation date with you, and on the first day our team arrives on site we issue the intermediate invoice of 40%, covering our continuous presence until the work is done. The final 20% is invoiced on practical completion. The whole journey - from signed contract to standing inside something you once only imagined - typically takes between six and twelve weeks.

What people really want to know, beneath the practical questions about timelines and payments, is whether they will be heard. Whether the thing they have been quietly dreaming about - a treehouse nestled into the arms of a two-hundred-year-old beech, a rope bridge connecting their children's world to the garden beyond, something that makes visitors fall silent for a second before they smile - whether that vision will survive the process of actually being built. It will. The design is shaped entirely around your needs and your budget, and you remain in control at every stage. We have been doing this longer than anyone in the industry and we have built more rope bridges than any company on earth, but none of that matters if the finished thing does not make your heart lift. That is the measure we build to. If you have been carrying a dream like this around for a while, wondering how it might actually happen... perhaps now is the time to find out.

…if you are exploring how a bespoke treehouse or rope bridge project actually works from first conversation to completion, it is worth knowing that the three-stage payment structure is designed to protect both sides - you never pay the full amount upfront and we never begin work without a clear, agreed plan. The entire process is built around partnership, not transaction, with the longest-established treehouse company in the world.

The fact that we dedicate ourselves to one project at a time is not a limitation - it is a deliberate choice. It means your build gets the same concentrated craft and attention that has defined our work for over two decades. Your wish-list drives the design, your site shapes the engineering and your pace sets the timeline. There are no production lines here, no templates pulled from a shelf. Just a conversation that becomes a drawing that becomes something extraordinary among the branches.

…you are looking for an off-the-shelf kit, a DIY flat-pack treehouse or a self-assembly structure you can put up over a weekend. That is a perfectly valid route - there are some decent kit manufacturers out there, and companies like Wickey or TP Toys offer garden play structures that work well for straightforward installations. If speed and low cost are the primary drivers, that world will serve you better than ours.

What we do is bespoke design and build - every project drawn from scratch around your specific trees, land and vision. We do not sell products from a catalogue and we do not offer plans for you to build yourself. If you need something fast, generic or budget-driven, we are genuinely not the right fit, and we would rather say so honestly than waste your time. Our process asks for patience, trust and a willingness to invest in something that has never existed before. For the right person - whether that is a private client with a garden full of ancient trees or a resort developer reimagining what a guest experience could feel like - that process is where the magic lives.
