Why Treehouse Life is Partnering With Two Children's Charities

Every treehouse we have ever built began with the same thing: a child, and an adult who loves them, imagining something a little larger than everyday life. That is our whole trade - lifting a child into the canopy, away from screens, into a world of make-believe, adventure and fun. After twenty-five years of it - long enough to be the UK's longest-established treehouse company - we have learned that the structure is never really the point. You can hand-cut every joint and dry-fit it before a single screw goes in, splice a rope that will outlast the tree it hangs from, and still the thing that matters is the child's face on the last rung.

That is exactly the conviction that connects us to Dan Charlish. Our founder, Paul Cameron, and Dan are two makers who arrived at the same truth from opposite directions. One builds treetop worlds a world away from everyday. The other takes young people to the mountain, and into a room where someone will finally listen. When two people believe the same thing that deeply, a partnership is not really a decision. It is a recognition.

The mountain: Snow Camp

Snow Camp was founded in 2003, when a youth worker in south London overheard a group of young people say that a snowboarding video game was the closest they would ever get to real snow. More than twenty years later, the charity works from four hubs - London, the North West, the Midlands and Scotland - using skiing and snowboarding to break down barriers, broaden horizons and raise the aspirations of young people who face them.

What Snow Camp understands is elevation, in every sense of the word. Stepping onto snow for the first time is a shift in mindset - a new environment where a young person discovers, often to their own surprise, that they can do more, be more and go further. From that first experience the charity builds a whole journey: life-skills training, recognised qualifications, mental-health support, volunteering and even apprenticeships. Young people arrive having never seen a mountain and leave as qualified instructors.

That is our language too. Where we lift children into the trees for adventure and imagination, Snow Camp lifts them onto the slopes for confidence, qualifications and self-belief. The same instinct, at a different height: take a child somewhere extraordinary, and they come back believing something extraordinary about themselves.

The pause: Stop.Breathe.Think

The second charity carries our other value even in its name. We build for slow-play - the deliberate pause that lets a child imagine, and lets an adult reconnect with what matters. Stop, breathe, think is that same pause turned into a lifeline.

Founded in 2020 in response to a mental-health crisis among young people, Stop.Breathe.Think provides online counselling to anyone aged eight to twenty-one who needs someone to talk to - nationally, without stigma, without cost, and crucially without the wait that turns so many young people away at the moment they most need help. The numbers are quietly staggering: more than 3,500 young people supported, over 22,000 counselling sessions delivered, partnerships with more than 150 organisations, and 92% of young people reporting improved mental health as a result. Its vision is simple and complete - that every child and young person should have someone to talk to.

Ours is that every child should have somewhere to wonder. Set those two visions side by side and you have the two halves of a whole childhood: the freedom to play, and the safety to be heard.

Why this belongs to our clients

Here is the part that matters most, and the reason we are telling this story publicly rather than keeping it to a line in our accounts. This partnership was built to belong to our clients as much as to us.

The families, estates and resorts who commission a Treehouse Life project are, at their heart, buying a life-changing experience for a child they love. We think it takes nothing away from that gift to widen it - to let a small part of every project reach a child who faces barriers our own children never will. The same wonder, a wider circle.

So, quietly, inside the interactive space where our clients already explore their design and their budget, we have added one further option. A client may choose to add a small percentage of their project price - entirely optional, entirely their choice - as a direct donation to the two charities. And our whole team, along with our guests, then works to put that matched fund to work in bigger fundraising still - sponsoring Snow Camp teams, backing events, leveraging one gift into many.
